Finally, go to the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences":
There are 3 options for you to choose in the operation of the SpamGobbler program:
When you preview the e-mail waiting in your accounts, it is all initially defined as spam, and it is marked for deletion in the leftmost column. But if any particular e-mail is known by you NOT to be spam, click onto the leftmost column which says "delete" and it will change to "keep". All preview information for this particular e-mail will then be shown in red. When you click on the big button at the top to delete your spam, this e-mail will of course be ignored (not deleted) and it will remain on the server. And if the first item above in the preferences is selected, the address of this e-mail's source will be entered automatically onto your "keep list". So the next time you preview your mail, instead of being listed for deletion, all e-mails from this source will be marked in red and the word "keep" will appear in the leftmost column. Alternatively, if this option in the preferences is not selected, the next time you receive any e-mails from the same source, they will be marked (in black) for deletion, no matter what you do (keep or delete) on the current occasion. [If you prefer, you can put e-mail source addresses onto the "keep list" manually. Just right-click the mouse on the 2nd column - "Sender" - and a little tab will appear for you to click to put the address manually on the list.]
For the 2nd preferences option above ("Hide passwords"), please refer to the current release notes.
Finally, the 3rd preferences option above will simply cause SpamGobbler to be closed when you navigate to your e-mail program to download your valid e-mails. Otherwise, if this option is not selected, the program will remain open.
You should now be ready to run SpamGobbler for the first time.
Click on the large "Preview" button on the left at the top, and you should see something like this for each of your accounts:
And then your e-mail preview will appear as in the following list, ALL MARKED FOR DELETION:
Then, choose the e-mails you want to keep by clicking in the leftmost column on the word "delete" to change them to "keep" as shown in the red line above.
By the way, if anyone knows who "Debora" is, please shoot her for me!
When you are ready, click on the "Delete Spam" button at the top to remove your unwanted e-mails:
After the spam for the accounts shown in the rightmost column has been deleted, a preview of all the accounts or the single account selected in the combo box at the top will be done automatically.
Please note that for previewing, you can either examine the spam for all your accounts (the default) or you can examine your accounts individually. For the second option, just choose the account in the combo box and click on the "Preview" button. After deleting spam, the automatic re-preview is based on the selection in this combo box.
Hopefully, the information above will be sufficient for you to use the SpamGobbler successfully. It is a simple program which helps alleviate a big headache!
